Bay windows extend past the wall and are typically made with three window panels. The additional space a bay window provides from the inside and the amount of sunlight that is let in are the main benefits of bay windows.

The main difficulties with bay windows are related to energy efficiency and improper installation. Many bay windows are poorly insulated with minimal insulation below the floor of the bay which leads to plenty of heat loss during the cold snaps we have here in the Flathead Valley. We at Precision Glass have also seen bay windows that aren’t properly secured and are starting to pull away from the wall, not fun!

Even with the downsides to bay windows, they can really be a nice feature to a home if installed correctly! A quiet nook to read a book, a source of plenty of sunlight, and a way to take in a great view!
